Misplaced because the Roll Tide as in the Crimson Tide is not what led to Jones’ victory which seemed unlikely just a few days ago. Neither The Kitchen Sink or DishWasher Could Stop Keisha Lance Bottoms

The leaders of Atlanta threw everything in the kitchen at Keisha Lance Bottoms, including the kitchen sink, the dishwasher and the butcher’s knife. In the end Lance Bottoms survived to defeat her rival Mary Norwood by 759 votes.

Lance Bottoms received 46,464 votes to Norwood’s 45,705. Both received 50 percent of the votes cast, which by law makes Norwood eligible to request a recount. She is expect to do so as she did in her 2009 race against Mayor Kasim Reed. read more

Actress Angela Lansbury at 92 years of age said as much in a radio interview which was broadcasted in November. According to USA Today, Lansbury addressing the “Me Too” movement opined: “There is two sides to this coin. We have to own up to the fact that women, since time immemorial, have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive. And unfortunately it has backfired on us — and this is where we are today.” read more

For the first time in Atlanta’s 170 year history  residents are trying to figure out who is the best woman to lead the city as mayor. After a grueling campaign season, which featured over a dozen candidates, Atlanta is on the brink of electing her second woman mayor in history. Pro Baseball Scouts and Coaches Hold Clinic In Atlanta

Steve Williams, President of Professional Scouting for the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Club, was all smiles on a recent chilly Saturday morning. What brought a smile to his face was the sight of 100 young, mostly black, men on the baseball diamond at Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

There was a gleam in his eyes that matched the radiant smile on his face as he looked across the ball field with the watchful eye of a mentor, coach and scout. read more

HBCU Showcase Brings Out Black Kids, Pro Scouts and College Coaches

When Chip Lawrence, a former minor leaguer and current National Scouting Supervisor with the Padres.ended his playing career; he wanted to give back to Black kids who shared his passion for baseball. Eight years ago, he started putting together baseball showcase events.

Three years ago, Lawrence, who works as a scout for the San Diego Padres, incorporated his dream into the Pro Youth Foundation. He has narrowed his focus to providing an opportunity for Black young men to advance their education via a historical Black College and University experience. read more

Hosea Williams Gets a Little Respect

Hosea Williams, a chemist by education and a civil rights hellraiser by trade has been shown a little love by the City of Atlanta. Williams transitioned 18 years ago. He was larger than life. Today, he was honored with a mural on the side of a parking garage on Auburn Avenue, a half mile from his old office at the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. read more
