HBCU Showcase Brings Out Black Kids, Pro Scouts and College Coaches

When Chip Lawrence, a former minor leaguer and current National Scouting Supervisor with the Padres.ended his playing career; he wanted to give back to Black kids who shared his passion for baseball. Eight years ago, he started putting together baseball showcase events.

Three years ago, Lawrence, who works as a scout for the San Diego Padres, incorporated his dream into the Pro Youth Foundation. He has narrowed his focus to providing an opportunity for Black young men to advance their education via a historical Black College and University experience. read more

Tuskegee-Alabama State Renew Rivalry Brings Families Together

They have not met on the gridiron since 2012. That year Alabama State University christened its new stadium with their 61st loss to it’s intrastate rival.

The two schools are about 35 miles apart. They started playing football against each other on Thanksgiving Day back in 1924. The series continued with minor interruptions for 88 years. read more

No Mention of SCLC At King Statue Unveiling

“SCLC is the only organization that Dr. King ever organized,” bellowed Charles Steele, Jr., President and Chief Executive Office of the International Southern Christian Leadership Conference, to a packed church on the outskirts of Tuscaloosa, Alabama last spring.

In spite of this fact the name of SCLC was not mentioned during an unveiling of a  statue of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the grounds of the Georgia state capitol on the 54th anniversary of his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. read more
