I have to admit that I know very little about the transgender world or issues related to transgender people. I am not certain that I know any people who are transgender. Perhaps, I do, but no one has shared with me their transgender sexuality. It is not that I am shying away from learning about issues that are important to persons who self identify as someone different from the person the obstetrician who delivered them identified them to be.

Tuskegee Drops Two to Eastern New Mexico
The Tuskegee University Golden Tigers began a 9 game road trip at the Home Plate facility in Peachtree City, Georgia against Eastern New Mexico State University. Tuskegee came into the game with a 5-2 record in the early season, while Eastern New Mexico is off to a 7-1 start. The teams played two games under sunny skies on Monday, February 13, 2017.
Tuskegee Bats Hot in Double Hitter Sweep
The bats stayed hot in Tuskegee’s double-hitter sweep over Virginia State University Saturday, February 11, 2016. Tuskegee , now 5-2 on the young season beat VSU 9-7 in the first game and 16-11 in the second game. Earlier in the week, Tuskegee dropped an 11-3 game on the road at Montevallo University.
Martin Left Big Baseball Legacy at Tuskegee
James Martin, 1944-2009, was head baseball coach at Tuskegee Institute, now known as Tuskegee University from 1971-1982 and from 1984-1988.
Martin was honored as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Coach of the Year ten times during his fifteen year baseball coaching career. Between 1976 and 1980, Coach Martin had a .750 winning percentage, winning over 200 games in his first ten years as the head baseball coach. During this decade, Martin doubled as the Assistant Head Coach of the Tuskegee football team. He would later become Head Coach of the football program and Director of Athletics at Tuskegee. Additionally, Martin served as Director of Athletics at South Carolina State University, Long Island University and his Alma Mater, Alabama A & M University.
Tuskegee Baseball Team off to fast start
The Tuskegee University Golden Tigers baseball team is off to a fast start, They started the 2017 season by sweeping Selma University, a perennial independent powerhouse, 11-4 and 15-5 in a double-hitter on February 3. Tuskegee pounded out 11 hits and was led by a two home run performance from Ricky Green, who drove in 4 runs.

I read with interest Tom Johnson’s (former head of CNN) plans for the Miller-Lanier 50th class reunion. Mr. Johnson invited the 1959 class at Ballard-Hudson to lunch. Fifty years ago this group could not sit together at the soda fountain in the old Davidson’s Department store in downtown Macon, Georgia.
Tuskegee Super Fan Back On Sideline
Jonathan Horn, affectionately dubbed the “Super Fan” by spectators of Tuskegee athletics, was told two years ago that he could no longer cheer for his favorite sports teams from the sideline on the historic Tuskegee campus, nor would he be allowed to travel with the football team on out of town trips.

The making of “Easier to Obtain than to Maintain” began in the spring of 2016. I received a call from a friend who asked if I would be interested in writing and publishing a book on the life of Cathelean Steele, the first lady of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC).
I was intrigued about getting to know the woman behind Dr. Charles Steele, Jr., the Chief Executive Officer and President of SCLC. After all Dr. Steele, had on two occasions in the 21st century resurrected SCLC from the brink of extinction. The woman supporting such a man had to be a fascinating person, worthy of the public’s attention.
