What’s holding up a jury of five men and seven women from reaching a verdict in the Bill Cosby case is anybody’s guess?
On the fourth day of deliberations, the Pennsylvania jury notified the court that it was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on any of the charges brought against Cosby by Andrea Constand.
Over the years, I have two vivid personal Cosby memories pre-scandal. One was an in-person encounter with Dr. William “Bill” Cosby at an audition for a pilot show he had in the works. This audition took place in the Peachtree Center Towers in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. It occurred sometimes in the early 1990s; probably 1991 or ’92. Camille Cosby just scored a victory for her beleaguered husband, Bill Cosby. He has been inundated with accusations of sexual misconduct by several women. The allegations in some cases date back to 1968.
Camille Cosby has been by the side of her man Bill since she turned 19 years old in 1964.The same year the couple married.
“Hey HMH,” my paralegal said one afternoon in the early 1990s, “Bill Cosby is auditioning for a new show in our building next week. You should sign up for an audition.”
“Yaa,” my secretary said, “you are always telling us stories every time we mess up something. You would be good for this.”
Dear Bill Cosby:
I trust this letter finds you in good health and in the best of spirits. I know that things are very difficult for you these days. I am not certain if this letter will find its way to you or if it will be read by anyone, but I felt you could probably use an encouraging word. How could I not offer Bill Cosby an encouraging word after all of the inspiration that you have given me over the years.
Black Lives Matter, not Cosby’s follies. A few days after Dylann Roof sat in an African Methodist Episcopal Church and gunned down nine African Americans in cold blood, I posited this rhetorical question on my Facebook Timeline:
“How long will it take for black people to become distracted again and what will distract them?”
