HBCUs Face Trouble In Trump Era

HBCUs are in trouble. On the last day of the recently concluded campaign to select the nation’s 45th President, Barack Obama, President No. 44, took to the airwaves to exhort African Americans to get out and vote for Hillary Clinton.

He appeared on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Joyner, a graduate of Tuskegee University, hosts annual scholarship drives. He donates the proceeds to HBCUs. The President jokingly told Black voters that if Donald Trump was elected President he was “coming after Michelle’s garden.” He followed this joke with what seemed like another joke. He said that Trump needed to be defeated because the Historically Black Colleges and Universities would be in trouble if Trump was elected. read more

Frank Johnson Legacy: If I Can Help Somebody

In 1945 Frank Jones Johnson, tall of stature, slender yet muscular of build, and 19 years old was returning home to Macon, Georgia from a tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps. Johnson returned to his father’s farm in West Bibb County, Georgia. The community was named Unionville by the residents because the entire community came together in unity to help their neighbors. read more

They done made America white again. Yep. He did it. Donald J. Trump just made America white again. It really does not come as a surprise to anyone that Donald J. Trump would surround himself with lily white faces.

But to see the smackdown live and in living achromic color shocks the senses into the comprehension of the reality show that will run the next four years. America, after all is said and done is a majority white country. read more

Winds Of Change Blowing Across America

Things are changing. The winds of change are stirring, invisibly moving across America. Change is in the air. This change is lead by a new cadre of foot soldiers, who were not born when the revolution of the 1960s was fought out in the ghettos and streets of America.

These revolutionaries are not seeking out the guidance of their elders, nor are they willing to wait for the elders to turn over leadership to them, as young people did over a half-century ago. This tends to drive a sharp divide between Boomers and the millennial generation. read more

Baseball, Dad, Son and the 2016 World Series

The 2016 World Series is now in the books, both the box score archives of Major League Baseball and the historical record books. As a dad I learned an important life lesson. The lesson was taught to me by my son, Coley Harvey. This lesson adds more meaning to the 2016 World Series to me, than it could possibly add to the average Cub or Indian fan’s appreciation for the history that was made this week. read more

I Don’t Trust Many of The Polls

I don’t trust the polls. As much as I would like to, I don’t trust the polls. I am finding it hard to believe what the data is saying. I simply don’t trust the polls.

One of the reasons I am having a hard time believing this data is because so many journalists, 96 percent of them, made campaign contributions to one candidate, Hillary Clinton, out of the four potential winners. read more

Atlanta, Georgia, Cascade Press has never endorsed a candidate for political office. In spite of this fact, in this digital space,we have not been shy in expressing our views on all things political . This is an unusual election year. We feel the need to endorse a candidate.

Although, Cascade Press will enter the game of endorsing candidates, we will not endorse a candidate for president. We will leave it to the intelligence of the electorate to make a smart selection between the four candidates that are on enough ballots that they could potentially win 270 electoral votes to become the 45th President of the United States of America. read more

Tuskegee Hosts First Baseball Alumni Classic

Tuskegee Institute, Alabama Tuskegee University under the leadership of first year Head Baseball Coach Reggie Hollins hosted its first Tuskegee University Alumni Baseball Classic, October 21, 2016, during the homecoming festivities at the historic university in East Alabama.

Hollins, a 2010 graduate of Tuskegee University, where he starred as a middle infielder for the Golden Tigers, took over the helm of the Tuskegee program this summer from Montressa Kirby, who had been doubling as the quarterback coach on the highly rated Tuskegee football team since 2009. read more

Tuskegee Chair Page Seeks To Quiet Dissent

Atlanta, Georgia, Cascade Press, Saturday, October 8, 2016, John Page, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Tuskegee University spoke with the Concerned Tuskegee Alumni in Atlanta, Georgia. He asked the group to quiet its dissenting voice regarding issues confronting the university.

Page’s message to the Concerned Tuskegee Alumni (CTA) was very similar to the “House Divided” lecture he gave to board members last weekend during the board’s annual fall meeting. His speech to the board was largely successful as members who had been willing to take a vote of no confidence on the job performance of the university president decided to get in line behind Page. read more

Assange October Surprise No Surprise At All

I stayed up all night to make sure I did not miss the October Surprise. I am not sure if it was a smart thing to do. Nevertheless, here I am up to see if Julian Assange pull a rabbit out of a hat. Many conservatives think if  Assange does, it will be the end of the Hillary Clinton campaign.

I am not sure if this is a logical inference that can be drawn given the fact conspiracy theorists think that the Clintons can fix any election and remove any irritant out of their way. read more
