The Middle Georgia Informer

Front Page Cover about celebrating Macon’s First Five Black Council Members

Award-winning author Harold Michael Harvey is in the top far left photo.

Well, well, I made the front cover of the May 2025 edition of my hometown newspaper, the Middle Georgia Informer. The story was about my mission to preserve the history of Black elected officials in Macon, Georgia. In December, Cascade Publishing House will host a luncheon to honor the memory of the first five Blacks elected to the Macon, Georgia City Council in 1974. Their service began in 1975.

On December 12, 2025, the city of Macon-Bibb County, Georgia, will present a Proclamation honoring the memory of Delores Brooks, Vernon Colbert, Julius Vinson, Rev. Eddie D. Smith, and Willie Hill.

The luncheon will follow the presentation of the Proclamation in the Richard Kiel Room of the Tubman African American Museum. The reading of the proclamation is open to the public, but the luncheon is a ticketed event. We hope to see you there.
