Harold Michael Harvey has written his fifth book on his long-term relationship with Civil Rights icon, Dr. C. T. Vivian.

Cascade Publishing House is excited to announce the publication of My C. T. Vivian Story: A Powerful Flame That Burned Brightly, by our publisher and author-in-residence, Harold Michael Harvey.

Vivian, an iconic civil rights leader and Harvey were neighbors for 27-years until Vivian’s transition in July 2020. They often shared private dinners where Vivian mentored Harvey and shared his innermost thoughts on various events that occurred during the civil rights era.

In the days following Vivian’s transition, Harvey set out to write a 300-500 word blog post in tribute to his friend. He did not stop at 500 words, and two weeks later, Harvey presented the Cascade Publishing House editorial board with a long-form essay on his time with Vivian.

We sent the manuscript out to our team of reviewers. We received rave reviews encouraging us to publish Harvey’s thoughts on the historical figure he came to know as a neighbor, friend, mentor, a fellow resister, and confidant.

“I thought I could pay homage to Dr. Vivian in a short blog post. As I began to write, the words kept coming, memories of moments spent with Vivian appeared at the forefront of my mind, and conversations we had on the great and eternal issues of nearly the last 100 years continued to pop into my head. Before I knew it, I had penned My C. T. Vivian Story: A Powerful Flame That Burned Brightly,” Harvey exclaimed.

One reviewer wrote: “This work is personal and powerful! There are many unknown jewels and insight into this legendary figure that we would not know without Harvey’s chronicle of his experiences with Dr. Vivian.”

Another reviewer offered this insight: “What an amazing read! It is well written (as expected) and flows as a REAL tribute to a friend and neighbor. The book comes across very genuine and heartfelt. It takes Vivian’s larger than life persona and respectfully “humanizes” it without taking an expose’ approach.”

When asked why he decided to title this work My C. T. Vivian Story, Harvey said: “Rev. Gerald Durley preached during his eulogy of Dr. Vivian that everybody who met Vivian had a C. T. Vivian story. This essay is my C. T. Vivian story.”

Plans are to release My C. T. Vivian Story on August 28, 2020, the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington. Readers may be surprised to learn that Dr. Vivian did not attend the March on Washington, but will learn what he did to help make the march a success.
