Jackson State Wins-Ala State, Prairie View Suspended Due to Rain

In an exciting day of baseball at the 2018 SWAC Baseball Tournament, Jackson State (34-17), the top nationally ranked team in the tournament defeated Alcorn State (13-39) 4-3.

Alcorn did not play like a team with only 12 wins coming into the tournament.

The Braves of Alcorn got on the board in the top of the first and led throughout the fifth inning on the strength of freshman hurler George Osborne,III. He was penciled into the lineup after the scheduled starter was unable to pitch due to a leg injury. read more

Alcorn, Prairie View, Texas Southern and Grambling Advances In SWAC Baseball Play

Alcorn State University (21-24) won an exciting one run game against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (21-24), 14-13 in SWAC Baseball Championship action on day two of the conference tournament.

It was a tight ball game, but Alcorn behind a 14 hit attack led most of the game.

In the eighth inning, Pine Bluff pulled even with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. read more

Top Seeds Advance In 2018 SWAC Baseball Tournament

The top seeds in the 2018 SWAC Baseball Tournament, as expected, advanced to the winners bracket after the first day of play.

The SWAC arguably the top HBCU baseball conference in the country opened its tournament yesterday at Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Jackson State, Grambling State, Texas Southern and Alabama State turned back determined foes in opening day SWAC action. read more

SIAC Baseball Tourney Offers Life Lessons

On May 4, at the SIAC Baseball Tournament, my alma mater,Tuskegee University, was preparing to play a baseball game that  would put them in position to play in the championship game, if they won.

A Tuskegee player ran pass me and said, “Mr. Harvey, you know anything about this.”

Albany State Wins SIAC Baseball Championship

The Albany State Golden Rams (28-16) defeated the Kentucky State Thoroughbreds to win the 2018 SIAC Baseball Championship. Coming into the tournament Albany State was ranked third in the Black College Nines Poll of small HBCUs.

On their way to the conference championship, Albany State knocked off Miles College, the number one ranked team in the Black College Nines Poll, by a score of 8-3. read more

Kentucky State Upsets Miles-Will Face Albany State for SIAC Crown

The Kentucky State Baseball team fought their way out of the losers bracket and will face a tournament favorite, Albany State for the conference crown. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Baseball Regionals.

After dropping an opening game to Clark-Atlanta behind a good pitching outing from Chae Butler, KSU rebounded by defeating Tuskegee 5-4 on Friday night in a game marred by taunts of racism and name calling hurled at the umpires by Tuskegee fans. read more

Miles,Albany,Claflin Kentucky State Advances in SIAC Tourney

Miles College and Albany State squeaked out one-run wins to cap off an exciting day of baseball at the SIAC Baseball Tournament, which will crown a conference champion on Sunday.

Both schools came into the tournament favored to reach the championship game.

They are ranked number one and two in the HBCU National Baseball Poll. Miles sits atop the poll and Albany is in the number two spot. read more

Opening Ceremony for SIAC Baseball Championship

Miles College and Claflin University teams are introduced to kick off SIAC Tournament.

The SIAC Baseball Tournament got off to a roaring start. The first day featured good hitting, strong pitching and superb defensive plays.

Miles College, a Christian Methodist Episcopal church supported school and the top ranked school in the prestigious HBCU baseball poll defeated Paine College from Augusta, Georgia, another school supported by the Christian Methodist Episcopal church 9-1. read more
